Who We Are

Founded in 1990 by a group of local citizens , The Friends of Manito is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, enhancing and celebrating Spokane’s regional treasure - Manito Park. We raise funds for park maintenance and improvement, showcase the park with annual events, and offer educational programs that inspire everyone to engage with the natural world. We do our work in partnership with the City of Spokane and with a broad community of supporters.

Our Mission

To conserve and enhance the beauty and functionality of Manito Park for present and future generations.

Our Vision

Manito Park persists in beauty and enhances quality of life as needs, circumstances and times change.

Values

Stewardship

We work to preserve Manito Park’s past, nurture its present, and ensure its future.

Education

We share knowledge and expertise with our community about the park, plants and nature through programs and education for diverse audiences of all ages.

Partnership

We work in partnership with Spokane Parks & Recreation and diverse community stakeholders who share our mission to support park operations and preservation.

Participation

We invite and inspire the community to enjoy and appreciate Manito Park through volunteering, programs, and special events.

Membership

Our active membership supports our mission through donations and by volunteering time and energy to key fundraising events, such as our twice-annual Plant Sales.  Our Members serve as Park boosters and ambassadors, helping to promote the community’s use, appreciation and enjoyment of Manito Park.

Plant Sale Volunteers

Every year, dozens of dedicated volunteers help to make our two annual Plant Sales happen. Volunteers work months in advance of our sales to plant and care for over 10,000 perennials. Beginning every March, volunteers work at the Park once or twice a week. It’s a great way to help the park, learn about growing perennials, and make friends with a great bunch of people.
